Hey guys. It’s me, Jack. Y’know, one of the spider sibs. You may know me as the brother of—

Nothing to see here folks. Jack is just being a name teller.

Give me my pen back! Why are you writing what I’m saying!?

Why did you write that!? Or that!?

STOP IT NOW, OR I’ll EAT YOUR CHOCO CRISPS!!!

Ahem, sorry about that. My insecure brother stole my pen because he thinks he has a “girl’s name” and doesn’t want me writing it down for the whole world to see. (He thinks it’s a girl’s name, even though it’s gender-neutral.) Anyways, I guess I should recap.

Last time you heard from us, this crazy scientist showed up while we were digging for information about our past in our dad’s office. Next thing we knew, we were being kidnapped! The End… of the recap. On to the rest of the story!

Now, our story resumes in a dark and cold laboratory. When the others and I woke up, we were in a cage. The laboratory was filled with long desks and a few beakers that were hardly visible because of the dark. I heard a ribbit coming from the cage next to ours. The sign on the cage said, "Toad Triplets."

Our furry spider bodies were numb. Our bodies look the same as a normal human body, but they are furry. We tried to get up, but our hands were chained to the bars of the cage. We all felt scared when, suddenly, a man walked towards us with plates that had insects on them.

I scoffed in disbelief as he handed us the plates.

“What are we, the Toad Triplets?” I asked.

“Thankless brats,” he muttered as he took the plates from us and gave the Toad Triplets their food.

“Take it,” he said to them coldly.

      “Ribbit,” one of them replied.

The scientist came back to our cage. That’s when I noticed his odd appearance. He wore a torn lab coat with black gloves, but they looked tighter and more concealing on the left than the right. He had black pants and a tight leather belt. His hair was black and scruffy. I think he had cracked goggles on his head, but he had too much hair for me to tell. Anyways, he also had a half-mask covering the left side of his face. He didn’t have much facial hair except for small tufts of black hair under his mask. I also noticed a small red glow under the mask. Heck, if this was an opera, he would be the Phantom of it.

“Hello,” he said in a cold, disregarding tone. “Did you enjoy your sleep?”

“None of your business,” I said. I regretted it immediately after I had said it because he gave me a look of pure hatred and anger.

“Well, I’m glad you’re all awake because I needed my test subject,” he told us.

“Test subject?” my sister Vanessa asked.

“Why, of course. How could I complete my experiments without a test subject?” he asked tauntingly.

He then pulled out a key, unlocked the cage, and came in.

“What are you doing?” I asked in a confused tone.

“Grabbing my test subject,” he said as he unlocked our chains.

“Where are you taking me?” she asked in fear.

“To the lab,” he said as he shut our cage and dragged her away.

He left into the dark corridor leading to his secret lab and shut the door. We all looked at each other, horrified.

After about two hours, he came back with Vanessa, who looked less furry. The fur she still had was paler, and her eyes had less of a glow. She was thrown back into the cage.

“What did he do to you?” I asked her when the scientist left.

“I-i-it was horrible,” she said in a shaky and quivering tone. “H-he started to—What was under his mask was—He-he...” At that moment, she collapsed from shock and fear.

We all gasped as we felt her temperature. She was shivering like crazy. We propped her against the wall and cut off our sleeves and the lower halves of all our pants and put them together on her to make a type of blanket to keep her warm.

“Do you think she'll be okay?” asked my spider brother, Steve.

“Of course not! She’s freezing! How’s that going to be okay?” I said in a slightly frustrated tone.

“Hey!” shouted out one of the Toad Triplets. “Is your sister gonna be all right?”

      “Highly doubt it,” I responded.

“Hey! Why did you shout at me when I asked that question, but when he asked, you didn’t shout at him?” Steve asked.

“'Cause you’re my brother. I wouldn’t shout at a potential ally, now would I?” I replied with a smile. “Hey, guys! How would you like to team up and escape?” I asked the Toad Triplets in a friendly manner.

“What do you mean?” one of the triplets asked.

“I mean that we can work together and find a way to bust out of here,” I shouted towards the Toad Triplets.

“Okay, but how?” one of them asked.

“With this!” I shouted as I grabbed a lock pick from my pocket and passed it to one of the toads.

“Wait, you had that the whole time?!” asked Daniel, one of my spider sibs.

      “Yeah,” I replied.

“THEN WHY DIDN’T YOU USE IT?!” Daniel asked in anger.

“Because we were chained up, and when we were unchained, the scientist took our sister, and when our sister was finally returned to us, she wasn’t conscious. So she couldn’t walk out with us! And finally, I couldn't reach the lock,” I explained.

“What do we do with this?” one of the toads asked.

“Stick to the lock pick to your tongue and then put the pick in the lock with your tongue!” I responded.

One of the Toad Triplets stuck the lock pick onto his tongue, moved it up to his chains, and freed himself. Then he unlocked the other two toads and their cage.

He then walked over to our cage, lock pick in hand, and unlocked our cage door. He helped us out and we left the cage, only to remember that Vanessa was still knocked out. We looked at each other and nodded, and then walked into the cage to pick up Vanessa and lift her out together. We started walking away slowly when we heard a noise. We turned and saw the evil scientist standing in the hallway.

“Where do you think you’re going?” he asked us in an angry tone.

It was at that moment we knew we had to—

      “RUN!” I shouted.

We ran, and the evil scientist chased close behind us when he started to step on several rakes.

“Where are these rakes coming from!?” He shouted as he looked to the side to see his rack of rakes completely empty. Then he looked forward and saw us throwing rakes. “How did they get those rakes? They were running forward the whole time!”

We ran forward and saw a door, but it suddenly started to close. It, no doubt, had a button that was closing it. We looked behind us and saw the scientist waving a remote. He then pulled out a gas mask and put it on. He pushed another button and the whole room started to fill up with sleeping gas.

      Black. Everything went black.
